Frozen Motion's career would have read completely different if Akita Rose Stable owner Kirsten Jade had not recommended the dark dappled gray to Ripley Marsh upon her return to racing. He could have faded into oblivion, being only a grade five racehorse at the time. He could have gone on to new owners and achieved mild success. But he didn't. He became a champion horse, the iron horse of Witch Creek Stable. It was fate that Ripley Marsh and Brookson Wells teamed up just in time to create a love triangle with this fierce front-running gray colt. Frozen Motion was hard to handle, speedy to the point of uncontrollable. He ran because he could. He ran because there had been no one to teach him the difference between racing and running off. He'd won his only start prior to coming to Witch Creek, the Unicorn Horn Maiden, on talent alone.
In the first months of racing, the gray horse turned it right around. He won four races at The Wire, stating his preference for the track, in what turned out to be one of the miraculous campaigns of a three year old turf colt. The Kentucky Open was next versus the blood-blooded nearly undefeated Infinite Warcry. The race would not be the first time the horses faced each other. Frozen Motion shocked the racing world with his victory in the Kentucky Derby and many thought perhaps the gray colt had won by fluke. It appeared so when Infinite Warcry came back to notch a victory in the Preakness Champion Stakes. Infinite Warcry did not go to the Belmont Turf Classic and all that was between Frozen Motion and his second leg of the Turf Triple Crown was Akita Rose Stable's Apollo Bear. Frozen Motion won in a beautiful show, firmly placing himself side by side Infinite Warcry in the three year old turf division.
After the Turf Triple Crown, Frozen Motion went on to victories in the Yinz Stakes, the Autumn Cup Grade Three Turf, the Rose Mile Cup and the Deadly Desires Memorial Stakes. He finished out the year with a third place finish in the Breeders' Cup Turf Marathon behind rival Infinite Warcry. At least Infinite Warcry finished behind Firebird, was all jockey Brookson Wells, who had ridden Freeze in every single start in his career at three, four and five, had to say about the race. Frozen Motion was named The Wire's Year Twelve Three Year Old of the Year and The Wire's Year Twelve Turf Male Of The Year.
After working on Frozen Motion's rating capabilities after the Breeders' Cup debacle, the gray horse was started back in a major stakes. At first Frozen Motion did not seem to be the same, finishing second in the Eclipse Stakes and third in the International Stakes. However, once March hit and Frozen Motion started getting the hang of racing again, he was nearly impossible to beat. He won races such as: The Wire Finish Cup Turf Mile, Wivern Cup, Bow Tie Cup (a GHF race), the Malibu Stakes, the Arlington Million Stakes, the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic, Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate, and a dead heat victory with Silent Fury in the Tropical Paradise Invitational.
He went into the Breeders' Cup Turf possibly a step behind Silent Fury and came out proving why he was the iron horse of the turf division. He took the win and put himself firmly in position for a possible end of the year title. A break was not given to Frozen Motion upon conclusion of Year Thirteen. He returned for another race, his last race, in the Dubai World Championship where he faced off with Flashy Wings, a two time Breeders' Cup Classic champion, and, ironically, his three year old rival, Infinite Warcry.
Frozen Motion lost nothing in defeat. He proved himself the ultimate warrior throughout a fantastic career, dancing every major dance possible. He is the true Iron Horse of racing.
